Mankatha - Ajith's One Man Show!

MONEY! MONEY! MONEY!
My review to the recent blockbuster Ultimatestar Kingmaker Thala Ajith's 50th film MANKATHA! This IS definitely a pretty biased review because its from an ardent THALA fan who has watched the movie three times ( as of now ) in the big screen and booked for more already. To start with, I watched the movie pretty late and expected a dull crowd at the theatre. I knew I had totally underestimated Ajith's mass during the uproar at his entry in the movie! The salt and pepper look perfectly suited with the role and then on it was Ajith , Ajith , Ajith all through the movie. What's so special about the movie for this huge a hype and success? Is this a totally new story ? No. Have we not seen a single movie in this genre? No. Is the twist in the climax completely unguessable? No. Then what is it about the movie that demands a second watch? One word for this - Ajith. Simply whatever Ajith does, supported with the awesome BGM by Yuvan can be watched with dropped jaws again.. and again..!

The first half of the movie is slow paced to form a base to the racy second half and superb climax. There are too many characters in the movie which gives little room for any to perform on screen. Even at times it feels its been sometime since Ajith was last seen. The comedy by Premgi has become too stereotyped and boring. Except for that the movie is untouched. The second half is completely racy starting from the last ten minutes of the first half itself. The bike and car scenes are a treat when combined with Yuvan's background score. The climax is made well such that the usualness is well covered. Some flaws here and there like everyone in and around Mumbai seems to speak Tamil and the convict whom Ajith saves to get suspended seems to go around the city not 'wanted' there on also the way they snatch the money van are made pretty much unnoticable in the first watch by the fast screenplay and camera. The songs are well taken except for some placed at movie pausing places.

Bottomline : Awesome. Definitely demands second watch.

GAME OVER!

What scores : Ajith , Yuvan , Machi open the bottle song , Scene before intermission , Climax

What doesnt : Premgi , Heroines , First half slight drag.
