If you live in Tamilnadu, India , you will definitely know what Im talking about already. Yes, the frequent power cuts ranging from 2 to 9 hours a day! Ofcourse the 9 hour power cut is once a month but even that one day is unbearable( If you stay home that is, most of the movie plans are on that day ;) ). The saddest part of this is the sudden 5-10 min power cuts frequently. Im able to finish a blogpost thanks to Google's auto draft saving after every letter typed :P I am most affected by power cuts in the midnight that stop your downloads (I have 50 movies in queue dammit!). Just when you want to watch TV or blast music or even sleep , pOOf its gone.
But this is not the case outside India or even outside Tamilnadu , Why ? Dont we have enough power plants? NO. We have a very good Electricity board and enough sources for generating current. If youve ever doubted that check here. So what is the reason behind this misery ? There are few reasons to which we suffer this and the majority of which doesnt put us to blame.
POLITICS - This this the major currentconsuming wasting thing happening in town! A political meeting , , some Politician comes town , some leader's birthday The whole town goes dark to light up the million tubelights placed at 5 feet from each other along the road where the 'THALAIVAR's(Leader) car would pass. And not to mention the glow from the ground where the meeting takes place! These meetings are such a waste of resources. Intha thalaivargal tholla thaanga mudiyala pa!
IT Buildings and Malls - The flashy lights and centralized A.C. in any Mall/IT building consumes amounts of current that are unimaginable! All this is done to make the mall look posh and 'modern'. For a simple example a tube as it is for lighting purpose is consider cheap in a mall. But the same covered by a glass case and art on it makes it posh. Seriously WTF? Even few other aspects in Malls like heights of bright lighting, powerful Air conditioning , escalators without sensors are wastage of priceless power.
ILLEGAL WIRING - Intha kodumaiya epdi yen vaaiyala solla?! This happens only in India, if you look at a wire junction you cant even tell the difference between 2 wires even by eye! Many localities , small ones rope illegal wires from the sources and draw current which is billed on someother 'poor' person in the nearby locality.
OWN WASTING - Now this is the part that puts the people to blame. Not switching off the fans while going out , running the Air conditioner for hours together in a empty room (to keep the room cool when you come home , WTH ? ). These small things happen in every house and can be resolved simply with just a little lesser carelessness.
The hopes of a new government bringing an end to this problem have gone down with the power cuts continuing. This is definitely something to ponder upon , and anyways lets do our parts to the best , then hope for the best, in the rest!
